Grateful

The I’m grateful challenge.

I believe the first time I saw it was the year before Chase was born, and I absolutely adored the idea.

The point of the challenge is for every day in the month of November post on social media something that you’re grateful for.

Now yes, I am fully aware that you should be grateful every day for those things you are blessed with. And trust me, I am. Things could be so so much worse for me. However, I think the point of this challenge is to really dig down deep and find the little things about your life that you’re grateful for. Everyone is grateful for their health, and family, and kids, so on and so forth. But what about those little things that just make your life easier, your day run smoother?

So, I posted the challenge to my Facebook blog page, stating that today I am grateful for the things that keep me warm; knee high boots and socks, my “grandma” sweater, the kick ass heat in my office, and coffee.

Tearing that apart a little – why these things? Duh, they keep me warm. I already said that.

It is a little more complicated than that, though.

My boots were a gift I got from Matt’s grandma for my birthday this year. I had complained that my old boots finally gave out, and she found me these. My socks, an online purchase from at least 6 years ago that are still holding up despite how often I wear them in the winter months – and not only do they keep me warm, they’re pretty too, with silver stitching over grey fabric, and I payed $2.00 for them.  My “grandma” sweater was dubbed this by a former boss, who for some reason liked to make little personal digs at me. Was I offended? Hell no. My grandma sweater is warmer than your soul, so fuck off. So while these items are functional, there’s some little anecdote behind them, too.

The heat and the coffee are pretty much no brainers, except to say that the company that introduced me to Unity Walk also introduced me to many an hour in many a basement with no heat. Days when I went home, every joint aching, my toes numb, and unable to get warm until I fell asleep, despite a hot bath and warm pajamas. I’m grateful for being behind a desk in the warmth and not in some creepy, cold basement, but still doing work I enjoy.

Coffee? Well. Coffee is life. Period, point blank. Without it I wouldn’t be half as amazing as I am, haha.

So, what are you grateful for today? Is it the little things, the things behind the scenes that make your life what it is, or the big picture – the house, the job, the people? Whatever it is, take a moment to really appreciate it today. Tomorrow is not promised, and why waste today complaining about the bad, when there’s really just as much good?

Happy November!
