Determined

My children are very determined creatures.

Chase came home still sick today – this is day 3, we tried school today but after lunch I got a call to come get him. Trying to keep from going stir crazy from being cooped up with my kids in such close proximity for 4 days, I’ve been trying to keep busy, and was folding laundry. I instructed Matt to clean up the basement where he plays video games and handed him a stack of clothes, and told him to put those away first. He popped off with some jokingly sarcastic remarks and I chased him up the basement stairs carrying my own clean laundry and Chase’s. I set my own clothes on my bed, and walked into Chase’s room. Where I found the child who has kept me from work for a day and a half sitting in his Sonic the hedgehog pjs at his table, science experiment box open in front of him. “Chase! I told you we would do that when you were better, and I also told you that mommy needs to help you with it!” He had ordered the science experiment through the book order that comes home monthly from school. At that exact moment, Matt crashed through the gate separating the living room from the dining room, knocking it off its hinges and falling to the floor. “What in the actual. . . ?!” “I forgot I closed it!” He responded, laughing and holding his leg. “But Mommmmm! I need to see if this science experiment can turn Matt into a turtle!” Chase whined. Oh, fuck my life.

My children are very determined to make me bat-shit crazy.

Also, Chase needs to get well so I can go back to work. And try and salvage some sanity while I still have a shred left.

I feel ya, elf.

Single mother to two amazing boys, sister to an inspiration, and the daughter of two opinionated, sarcastic, fun loving individuals that are no longer physically with us. Music, writing, reading, my family - living and gone - are what keep me going as I put on my rose colored glasses and navigate us through this crazy world.
